What is the TikTok safe zone?
The TikTok safe zone is the part of a 1080×1920 video that TikTok's interface never covers. On organic posts the action bar takes the bottom 350 px and the buttons a rail from x 918; Spark Ads take the bottom 484 px, including the Shop Now button.
Anything inside it stays readable; anything outside plays under the username, the caption, the sound row or a button — and burned-in text can't be moved after export. TikTok doesn't publish one fixed set of pixels: its in-feed ads help says the safe area depends on the video's shape, the ad caption length and any add-ons. The numbers here are CapQA's measured masks for the default layout.
TikTok safe zone dimensions on 1080×1920
On a 1080×1920 frame, text clears both TikTok layouts between y 130 and y 1436 and left of x 918. Organic posts cover the bottom 350 px and a button rail from x 918; Spark Ads cover the bottom 484 px, the top 130 px and a rail from x 940.
Read the margins as a minimum. Product links, location tags and longer descriptions add rows above the username, so the organic bar grows past 350 px on some posts; the Spark Ads stack already allows for the profile row, the caption, the sound and the button.
Does the safe zone change for TikTok ads?
Yes. A Spark Ad adds a taller bottom stack — 484 px instead of 350 — with a Shop Now or Learn More button at y 1436–1566, a Sponsored tag in the top-left and a right rail that starts higher, at y 538. Text that cleared an organic post can land under the button.
A caption where auto-caption tools usually drop one — the top of the bottom third, y 1382–1602 — loses 76% of its area on a Spark Ad and 18% on an organic post. Boosting doesn't re-edit the file, so lay out any post that might be promoted for the ad version from the start.
Where to put captions and text on TikTok
Put captions in the middle band, centred around y 1080 — CapQA burns them in a 328 px slot from y 916 to 1244, above every bottom stack. Keep logos top-left inside the safe zone, below y 260, and keep prices and promo codes out of the right rail.
Captions
Two short lines in the middle band. CapQA burns them in a 328 px slot from y 916 to 1244, centred on Y=1080 — 192 px above the Spark Ads stack — and wraps them short of the button rail for the placement you pick.
Promo codes and prices
The same band, left of x 918. The organic rail starts 22 px further in than the Spark Ads rail, so a line that clears one can still lose its last word to the other.
Logos
Top-left inside the safe zone, below the 130 px top band and clear of the Sponsored tag. CapQA's logo slot is 200×80 at x 114, y 284.
Calls to action
Say "tap the orange cart" and keep the matching line in the middle band. An arrow pointing at the button should end above y 1436.
TikTok, Reels and Shorts safe zones compared
All three apps share the 1080×1920 canvas, not the interface. Among the ad layouts, TikTok Spark Ads have the tallest bottom stack (484 px), Shorts reaches furthest in from the right (x 936) and from the top (234 px), and Reels is the most forgiving — though Meta advises keeping the bottom 35% clear.
Meta's own guidance for Reels ads is stricter than its interface: leave 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side free of text — 269, 672 and 65 px on this frame. Captions in CapQA's slot end at y 1244, above Meta's line at y 1248. The Reels and Shorts guides cover each layout in full.
How to check a video against the TikTok safe zone
Drop the video into the free check below. It draws the Spark Ads layout over a frame in your browser and shows what it covers; nothing is uploaded. Then flip to the Reels and Shorts tabs.

Why CapQA uses a 900×1400 safe zone
CapQA uses one box for every platform: 900×1400, centred on 1080×1920, with 90 px margins at the sides and 260 px at the top and bottom. Chrome still bites into its lower edge and right side on ads, so Studio anchors captions at Y=1080 instead of anywhere inside it.
On Spark Ads the stack starts at y 1436, 224 px above the box's bottom edge, and the button rail from x 940 cuts 50 px into its right side. The box is where text is allowed; the caption slot is where it is safe on every placement at once.
TikTok safe zone questions
What are the TikTok safe zone dimensions for 1080×1920?
By CapQA's masks, organic posts cover the bottom 350 px and a button rail from x 918; Spark Ads cover the top 130 px, the bottom 484 px and a rail from x 940. Text between y 130 and y 1436, left of x 918, clears both.
Is there an official TikTok safe zone?
Not as one set of pixels. TikTok's ads help says the safe area depends on the video's shape, the ad caption length and any add-ons, and offers overlay files to check against. The numbers on this page are CapQA's measurements of the default layout.
Where should subtitles go on a TikTok video?
In the middle band, centred around y 1080, in two short lines. That clears the organic action bar (from y 1570) and the Spark Ads stack (from y 1436); the bottom third is where TikTok's own caption and buttons sit.
Do the numbers change for a 720×1280 video?
They scale with it. Every number here is for 1080×1920; at 720×1280 multiply by two thirds — the Spark Ads stack becomes about 323 px and the right rail starts near x 627.
Can I reuse an Instagram Reels layout on TikTok?
Not safely. Reels covers only the bottom 330 px, so a line placed just above the Reels rail lands on TikTok's Shop Now button, which starts at y 1436. Lay the video out for TikTok Spark Ads first — it clears the Reels rail and the Shorts title bar too.
Does the free check read the text in my video?
No. It finds where burned-in text sits on your frames and measures how much of it the platform's interface covers — it does not read the words. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
