Free safe zone checker. Is your video safe?

See if TikTok Spark Ads, Reels or Shorts buttons cover the text in your video, and how far to move it.

Safe zone overlays for CapCut, Premiere and Canva

Is there a safe zone overlay for CapCut, Premiere or Canva?

Yes. Four free, transparent 1080×1920 PNGs drawn from the masks the check uses: one per placement, showing its buttons and the area they cover in red, and one with all three at once. Put one on the top layer of your edit, keep text out of the red, and hide it before you export.

How the check works

How does the safe zone checker work?

The check finds where burned-in text sits on your frames and tells you whether TikTok Spark Ads, Reels Ads or Shorts Ads hide any of it, and how far to move it. It runs in your browser and reads no words. A typical bottom-third caption loses 76% of its area on Spark Ads.

  1. 01

Opens the file in your browser

It reads up to 30 moments in this tab: every half second of a clip up to 15 seconds, and of a longer one's first 3, where the hook is. Nothing is sent anywhere.

  2. 02

    Finds where text sits

A text detector marks where burned-in text sits at each moment: captions, codes, price cards. It doesn't read the words. Small print and overlays off to one side, like a stream chat or a watermark, don't count.

  3. 03

    Answers for each placement

It lays the TikTok Spark Ads, Reels Ads and Shorts Ads buttons over your frames. Safe means none of your text sits under them; if some does, it says how far to move it.

What it can't see: the words themselves, faces and products, every layout a platform tests, and whether an ad gets approved. The questions below say more.

Safe zone numbers, platform by platform

Which safe zone numbers does the check use?

Every result comes from three fixed masks on a 1080×1920 frame. The Spark Ads stack covers the bottom 484 px, Reels the bottom 330 px and Shorts the bottom 345 px; the right-side buttons start between x 936 and x 996. The table lists every region.

Put together, a box from x 90 to x 918 and from y 260 to y 1436 clears every region in the table. The guides for TikTok, Reels and Shorts explain each one.

Safe zone checker questions

Is my video safe for TikTok ads?

Drop it in the check above: it answers for TikTok Spark Ads, Reels Ads and Shorts Ads at once. Safe means none of the text it finds sits under the Shop Now button, the profile row or the side buttons at any moment it checks. It says nothing about faces, products or ad policy.

Is the safe zone checker free?

Yes. The check is free, needs no account and has no limit on runs. Fixing a video, by burning captions inside the safe zone, happens in CapQA Studio, which includes 3 free videos a month on the free plan.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser opens the file in this tab, reads frames from it and finds where text sits on them, and the detector runs here too. Nothing is sent to CapQA. If you accepted analytics, we count only that a check ran and the scores it gave.

Does the check read the text in my video?

No. The check finds where burned-in text sits on your frame and measures how much of it the ad buttons cover. It does not read the words, so it can't tell a promo code from a subtitle. It tells you whether the text is under a button.

Does it count a stream chat, a watermark or a product label?

Not by default. It leaves out small print and overlays off to one side: a stream chat, a game HUD, a TikTok watermark, the small type on a label. It goes by size, place and time, not words, so a big brand name still counts. That text shows grey, and Count it too puts it back.

How far do I need to move my text?

As far as the result says. For each placement where text is covered, it gives the distance as a share of the screen and in pixels on a 1080×1920 frame, for example: move it up at least 3% of the screen height (50 px), because the Shop Now button starts at y 1436. A box from x 90 to x 918 and from y 260 to y 1436 clears all three placements.

What does the score mean?

Each placement gets its own: 100 minus the share of your most-covered text that sits under that placement's buttons and labels. 100 means none of it does. The detector draws its boxes with a margin around the letters, so a box that only brushes a button still scores 100. There is no score when the check finds no burned-in text, or when the frame isn't 9:16.

Which files work?

MP4, MOV, M4V and WebM, so any vertical video your browser can open, and 9:16 PNG, JPG or WebP images: a cover, a static ad, a frame exported from your edit. If the browser can open a video but not decode the picture, as with some iPhone HEVC clips, the check still reads the frame size and draws the buttons, but it can't find your text. Export an H.264 MP4 for the full check. Phone screenshots run taller than 9:16, so export the frame instead. A frame copied from Canva or Figma can be pasted onto the page with Ctrl+V or ⌘V.

Can I check several videos at once?

Yes. Drop or choose up to 20 videos or 9:16 images at once. The check reads them one after another in this tab and lists every file with its answer on TikTok Spark Ads, Reels Ads and Shorts Ads. Open any file for its full result, or copy the whole list for your creators.

Does it check organic posts or only ads?

The check uses the paid layouts (TikTok Spark Ads, Reels Ads and Shorts Ads) because they cover the most. A video that clears Spark Ads also clears TikTok's organic action bar at the bottom, but the organic side buttons start 22 px further left, at x 918, so keep text left of that too.

What if my video isn't 9:16?

Then it gets no score. Each placement crops or pads a frame that isn't 9:16, so its buttons don't line up with your text the way the masks assume. Export it again at 1080×1920 before moving any text, and check that.

Does it find faces or products under the buttons?

No. It looks for burned-in text only: captions, codes, price cards. A face or a product under the buttons won't show in the result, so check those by eye: on the overlay here, or with the overlay PNG in your editor.

Does a safe result mean my ad will be approved?

No. The check measures where text sits, nothing else. Ad approval depends on each platform's policies, which the check doesn't review.
